The idea that Russian and Western imperialism are, for Ukraine at least, equal, is simply nonsense. Russia has invaded and occupied a significant portion of Ukrainian territory. The war that they started has killed over 10,000 Ukrainians and displaced nearly 2 million others. Did the West do that to Ukraine? No.
The grassroots fraction of Maidan did not fulfill its revolutionary tasks, being unable to go beyond the demands “to change power” and the repetition of the bourgeois-democratic ideology. Not that “intellectuals” were drowning their sorrows, while the people vainly exercised their minds, secretly praying for help.
“Russian ideology” is modernism in the service of militant antimodernism, the using of progress to stop the progress, or even better, to reverse it. That is why Russia has never seriously sought world domination even in its dreams, and in its more recent wars were fought under the slogans of a “multipolar world”.
The political reason for the fall of the power of the Yanukovych «family» was the breaching of obligations by the authorities to the classes. Parliament adopts a budget, keeping in mind the criticism and the wishes of groups of influence. The government secretly steals, but does not kill the poor. The authorities can ignore or press the protest, but torture and murder in relation to the dissenters should not be used. In January 2014, the government violated all these rules and lost «legitimacy» in the eyes of the people.
Novorossia is a non-class project: the workers in it are fighting against other workers, and not against the capitalists. The workers are not fighting under the leadership of the workers’ party, but under the leadership of the Moscow oligarchs and Russian fascists. Novorossia is an anti-humanistic project: its agents deny the diversity of religions and life-styles, any right of an unarmed person.
